Engineering Guidelines

Component Selection Guide

Selecting the ideal wire mesh component requires evaluating operational mechanics, chemical exposure, and geometric boundaries. Use our standard evaluation factors below to specify the correct configuration.

1 µm to 1000+ µm
1. Micron Rating & Precision
Identify the exact particle retention cutoff needed for process fluid clarity.
Engineering Rule:Use Twilled Dutch Weaves for < 20 µm; Plain Square Weaves for coarse straining > 100 µm.
Permeability vs Pressure
2. Flow Rate & Delta P
Balance open area percentage against differential pressure tolerances.
Engineering Rule:Higher mesh counts restrict throughput. Optimize open area to minimize continuous energy loss.
-200 °C to 950 °C
3. Operating Temperature
Select alloys that resist thermal oxidation and structural creep at process extremes.
Engineering Rule:SS 304 up to 450 °C; SS 316L for continuous 600 °C; Inconel or Nickel alloys for > 700 °C.
Corrosion Resistance
4. Chemical Compatibility
Prevent chemical pitting, stress cracking, and galvanic corrosion from aggressive media.
Engineering Rule:SS 316L contains 2-3% Molybdenum for superior chloride and acidic resistance over SS 304.
Housing & Envelope
5. Space & Structural Rigidity
Ensure media fits spatial confines while resisting mechanical deflection under fluid head.
Engineering Rule:Use sintered multilayer laminates where high rigidity is mandatory without external support baskets.
Reusable vs Disposable
6. Cleaning Cycle & Regeneration
Determine if backwashing, ultrasonic washing, or thermal burn-off is required.
Engineering Rule:Surface-loading metallic mesh elements offer 10x longer cycle lifespans than disposable media.
